What a competition we have had this spring. Earthquakes and double-header nights. With these factors in play, it didn't stop the team turning out some great performances. This is probably been the best competition we have had before and certainly, the most teams entered.
In Division one we had a final on our hands. The two top teams were fighting it out. Going into it WITC looked like the already set winners, but Tenzing wasn't going to take it laying down. Tenzing put in a tremendous effort; they were playing out of their skin. I reckon a bit of competitive gameplay and they will take the next round finals. They lost narrowly 3-2, but it was very good to see Sandeep and Bhushan play like I've never seen them play before. Well done to them.
The third and fourth playoff was an entertaining match with Kitomba Paddle Pals who are typically in the finals didn't make it this time. That didn't stop them taking a 3-2 win over defending champs Catalyst IT. Even though Catalyst IT were missing one their key players they still did well to get two games off Kitomba Paddle Pals. Watch for these two teams in the next competition.
For fifth and sixth playoff in Division, one were filled by BNZ Mercenaries, and I Love Paris. BNZ took a 3-2 winner just over I Love Paris. Samara is looking like she's getting back to her form. Hopefully, we will see her in the next comp with her brand of play. It was good to see BNZ step up this competition after winning Division two in the Winter series.
In division two we had the return of Supreme to take the trophy. Supreme took on Corelogic Ren, the competition favourites from the first night. Fraser put on a huge display of skill to take down Travis in the first match, I think this was the deciding game. With CoreLogic Ren's confidence taking a knock they could only manage one win under the pressure. Therefore Supreme taking them 4-1. It was a really interesting match to watch just to see how people dig deep to pull out a win. Well done to both teams.
The third and Fourth playoff were another entertaining matches, Hashbang 1 taking on Team Outpost. Even though Hashbang won 4-1, Team Outpost didn't look like they played their star players. Seeing Paul and Caleb putting on a great display of table tennis helped them secure third place. Another competition and we could see either teams play in the finals.
Fifth place went to Powerbees with their dominating win over CoreLogic Stimpy. After being relegated to Division 2 their drive for winning didn't go away, they kept pushing for the win. Powerbees are a team to watch in coming series. Even though CoreLogic Stimpy lost 5-0, they still finished well in six out eight teams. A bit consistency in their players with seeing them improve coming competitions.
Finally seventh and eighth was a whitewash with Hashbang 2 taking their first ever 5-0 win over Storypark. I've been very impressed with Julio (Hashbang 2) improving his game week by week, it's awesome to see. Even though Storypark took a beating, Aaron is another player that I have had the pleasure of witnessing his improvement in the game. From when he first played to now he is a completely different player. Well done to both teams for upping their skills.
I have really enjoyed Spring 2016, it's great seeing the wide range of skill and the eagerness of the players. Out of all the Table Tennis competitions in Wellington this is by far my favourite. I would like to thank everyone who has supported this from when it started nine competitions ago to now. With out you all this wouldn't happen
