Spring 2016 Round 1 Update

Round 1 Update

10 Nov 2016 by Steve Montgomery

Last week we started the spring 2016 competition with the most team entries, 14 in total. Late entries of two teams in Division two forced the draw to be arranged into a five-week found Robin instead of seven weeks. So the teams in Division two will have to play two matches a night over two nights. We will see fatigue settle in with their later games.

Spring2016-1 Division 2 - 8 teams
Spring2016-2 Division 1 - 6 teams

In Divison 1 previous competition winner Catalyst IT started high with a 5-0 win over newly promoted Division 2 winners BNZ Mercenaries. BNZ earned their Division one spot after winning the Division two grade in the Winter competition. They are a team to watch as their skills grow over time.

Spring2016-5 Danny Adair and Andrew Maguire, Catalyst IT
Spring2016-6 Phil Mora and Karthik Vijay, BNZ Mercenaries

WITC (top seed team) took on the mighty Kitomba Paddle Pals (Multiple competition winners). For the first time ever Kitomba had a 5-0 loss. In all fairness, the skill level in division one has lifted due to the entry of WITC and Tenzing.

Spring2016-3 Ian Talbot and Malcolm Wong, WITC
Spring2016-8 Liam and Paul, Kitomba Paddle Pals

Newcomers Tenzing entered this competition as the unknown entity. They took a 5-0 win over returning team I Love Paris. Tenzing could have one hand on the trophy already with their skill level. I Love Paris looked rusty, Samara their big hitter has a returned after having a gorgeous baby. Keep an eye on them as she will bring the pips along soon.

Spring2016-7 Sandeep and Bhushan, Tenzing
Spring2016-8 Samara, I Love Paris

Division 2 saw the welcome return of Supreme and Storypark making eight teams in Division 2. Upon return, Supreme was put to the test straight away and playing top-seeded team CoreLogic Ren. Even though Supreme lost 5-0, they found form in the following round with two big wins putting them third on the table closely behind Team Outpost.

Spring2016-9 Matt and Fraser, Supreme
Spring2016-10 Travis and John, CoreLogic Ren

Team Outpost made a promising start to the competition with a 5-0 win over Hashbang 2. They are looking much better this round and look to be a chance for the trophy. Still, it's early days. Powerbees make a return to Division 2 only to take on their old rivals Hashbang 1 which they lost narrowly to in the Spring 2015 competition finals. Hashbang 1 won with ease.

Spring2016-11 Chris and David, Team Outpost
Spring2016-12 Mohamed and Julio, Hashbang 2

CoreLogic Stimpy had their first win since the autumn comp. They faced up against Storypark who has come back after a hiatus. Storypark lost 2-3 games to CoreLogic Stimpy, but they are looking good and have acquired some new skills watch out for them. Overall I'm pleased with the skill level in this competition everyone is looking good.

Spring2016-13 David and Mark, CoreLogic Stimpy
Spring2016-13 Aaron, Storypark
